The intrepid group of fifteen Catenians led by Christopher L. set off very early on Tuesday 8th October 2019 for Portsmouth ferry port to catch the Caen ferry.

On arrival in Caen, Ron, the driver of our coach, drove us around the area to familiarise us with the layout of the town before dropping us off at our hotel.

We were all up early on Wednesday for a good breakfast before setting off in our coach for the Normandy beaches. We drove along the coastal road adjacent to Sword, Juno and Gold beaches stopping to absorb the magnitude of the challenge that faced the allied troops on D-Day. On arrival in Arromanches we first went to the 360° Museum where we saw a superb film that was a truly moving experience. We then walked into the centre of Arromanches to visit a another museum followed by lunch.

After lunch we travelled to Bayeux to see the tapestry; as we walked beside the 70m long tapestry, there was an excellent commentary which explained each scene and told the story of William the Conqueror, Harold and the Battle of Hastings.

On Thursday we travelled to Pegasus Bridge where we had a really superb guided tour round the museum. In the afternoon we travelled to Honfleur, a really pretty fishing village where we had lunch and time to saunter around the town.

On Friday morning we all had time to look around the sights in Caen and have lunch before departing for the ferry for our trip home.
