In the hope that easing of the lockdown will continue on schedule, our plans for future social events are now starting to take shape. All of the events below do of course depend on the end to limits on numbers for social gatherings currently scheduled for 21st June. Fingers crossed - July is going to be a busy month! -

  • Sunday 4th July at 11am, brother Christopher is planning to hold the President’s Mass at St. Mary’s Parish Church in Alton. After Mass, there may be opportunity for coffee in the Church Hall before lunch at Chris and Ann’s house.

  • 6th July we plan to hold our first post-pandemic face to face Circle meeting at the golf club. We are investigating the feasibility of hybrid meetings for brothers who cannot attend in person, to attend virtually on Zoom. Some early exploratory work has been carried out by Jim Manderson and Tony Fisher, to look at the capability of the network at the Golf Club to support Zoom. Next steps will be discussed at the Council meeting later this month.

  • Saturday 10th July there is our re-scheduled trip to the Mill at Sonning theatre. We have 18 people booked to come along on this trip. Tony Fisher sent an email a couple of weeks ago to all those booked on this trip setting out the arrangements for the visit so please let him know if you have any questions or you haven’t seen the email in your inbox!

  • Saturday 17th July we are planning to belatedly hold the Past President’s Dinner. This of course has been delayed because of the impact of the pandemic. It will be held in the Connaught Room at the Golf Club which gives access to a large balcony - very pleasant on a warm summer’s evening.

  • Saturday 21st August we are planning to hold our annual BBQ; this year it is being held in the Parish Hall and garden at St. Swithen’s Church in Yateley. A big thank you to Brother Paul Sudell who is our point of contact at this parish and who has kindly made the arrangements with the priest and parish office. We will be planning this in further detail over the coming weeks and would appreciate any offers of help from brothers and wives to make this a great day. So please drop Tony Fisher a note if you would like to be involved in the organisation.

  • Tuesday 7th September there will be a ladies night at the Golf club.

  • During September or October, Brother President Christopher has kindly offered to arrange a trip and guided tour of the Submarine Museum in Gosport followed by lunch at a local hostelry afterwards, no details on the precise date at this stage.

  • 1st – 4th October the Jersey weekend takes place and Brother President Christopher, Walter, David Welsh and Tony Fisher together with their wives are planning to go. It looks like it’s going to be a great weekend at a lovely hotel, with trips, fine food and great company. So, if anyone else would like to come along, please take a look again at the email Tony sent out a few weeks ago with the details and let him know as soon as possible as accommodation will soon get booked-up.

  • During the autumn we are hoping to have a Circle skittles night and a visit to an Isle of Wight Circle meeting. There are no details at the moment for these events but Tony will keep everyone posted once there is more information.

  • Tuesday 2nd November, we have our Mass for deceased brothers at the Golf Club. As usual widows will be invited. This will also be a ladies night.

  • Saturday 4th December, we will be having our Christmas Lunch. We will be inviting brothers from Fleet and Ascot and Sunningdale Circles to come along. We are planning entertainment but more details closer to the time!

  • Finally – the one event that is not subject to Government restrictions is the Zoom Coffee Shop. This will continue as normal every Monday at 11am for those that wish to come along.

Somebody's been working hard. I hope we will all support our VP's efforts to return to some form of normality
